Collection: Caffeinated Spider & Lotus Cardioid

The "Caffeinated Spider” series was originally named after NASA's experiments caffeinating spiders and observing the webs the spiders produced! It is also inspired by the geometric forms found in Islamic architecture.

The drawings and 2D pattern, a multi-sided cardioid, was made by altering the code in a computer program to draw many lines that connect in a particular pattern so that an 8-petaled lotus shape emerges.

The ceramics have curvy silhouettes inspired by Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Greek, and Indian pottery.

The pieces with golden inserts are inspired by Japanese "kintsugi" golden joinery, and pieces with intricate filigreed golden patterns are inspired by Indian "Tanjore" and Italian "pastiglia" gilded low relief painting.
