This 6" diameter lidded jar is thrown from scratch by hand on a pottery wheel without the use of molds, and is made from stoneware clay, finished with sculptural ribbon lid. It is decorated with a "hotarude" ("firefly hand") method in a geometric pattern, where holes are carefully carved into the clay and a tinted glaze is applied, creating a stained-glass window effect reminiscent of the light of fireflies.
